We need gasoline! (A One Hour Skirmish Wargames Scenario)

Four survivors escaped the hell of Denver, which was completely sealed off by the National Guard a few weeks ago. But all efforts came too late. Not only had the major cities collapsed, the entire country perished and is now dominated by the living dead.

Those who managed to escape are looking for refuge or want to reach their families and friends. The small group has made it from Colorado to Nebraska, avoiding all highways and making their way through the sparsely populated backcountry. The destination of the journey is Minneapolis, but at the moment they are not even halfway there. And now the group runs out of gas and the battered truck rolls out with the last drops on a dirt road near a small settlement.

Goal or victory conditions:

The group must find gasoline and, preferably, food.

The scenario is won if at least one survivor manages to refuel the Dodge and leave the terrain with it.

The scenario is lost if either all are dead or have fled on foot over any terrain edge.

The small group is exhausted and therefore has no 'motivation' to count against 'morale'.

Gasoline can only be found via loot cards.

Movement with a gas can:

A character with a gasoline canister may only take 1 movement action (in addition to any other actions) when activated.

Survivors have the first player phase of the game! Initiative is determined only from the 2nd turn on, according to the core rules.

Special Rules Zombies:

Undead, unlike normal characters, only have a movement range of 4" per movement action. However, according to the basic rules, they may take a maximum of 3 movement actions per activated character (within the action point limit of the player phase).

For particularly loud actions (shooting, grenades, explosions, etc.) the zombie player draws a card: BLACK card means another undead has been attracted and placed at the distance of the drawn card value from the origin of the sound.

For "shot" zombies, the normal base rule for 'downed' (red is dead) applies.

Zombies defeated in melee are not immediately eliminated, here the special rule "only red is really dead" applies. Means that only a red card actually takes the zombie out of the game. A black card is only considered as 'downed', as in shooting.

Michi and Doc used "One Hour Skirmish" as a rule system for the first time, with no learning curve, no dice, no tables, etc. It is a actually so straightforward that it lives up to its name and allows a cinematic game experience in a little more than one hour.

Tucker, the leader of the small group, sent Peggy-Sue ahead to look for gasoline. She immediately spotted a campground with lots of junk that looked promising from a distance. While Tucker covered Peggy-Sue, Dale and "Sugar" also got out. "Sugar" noticed noises behind a small group of trees and set out to explore the area, but was surprised by an undead in the undergrowth and summarily killed. This was to turn out to be a great misfortune later on.

While Tucker with his assault rifle and Dale with his axe could fend off a few zombies that came too close, the sounds of gunfire attracted more living corpses. In the meantime, Peggy-Sue found what she was looking for at the tents: Firearms and the hoped-for gasoline! She set off, heavily loaded, to get back to the truck as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, the recently deceased "Sugar" came back to undead life and crawled through the underbrush back to the truck, into the back of Dale, who, when he turned around, at first didn't want to admit that the old companion was at his throat. He lost the fight immediately, was bitten and mortally wounded, only to rise again a few minutes later as a zombie.

Tucker hurriedly met Peggy-Sue and together, surrounded by more and more undead, managed to refuel the truck and start the engine.

Michi had managed to save at least two people of his small group and enabled them to continue their journey through the apocalypse. Congratulations.
