To mention important things first: The rule system impacted with a BANG!
Es war ein kühler Freitagabend im späten März des Jahres 1895 im Norden Londons...
The table layout: Tandard scenario 9.1.9 CATCH THE PIGEON in a setup of 10.12 THE SHUNTING YARD from the rule set was played on the central 1 square metre.
It was a chilly friday evening in late march 1895 in northern London...
In der Tischmitte, gleich weit von allen drei Kompanien entfernt, steht der Kurier, genannt "Die Taube". Er hat wichtige Pläne bei sich, die alle an sich reißen und bergen wollen.
Docs "Defenders of Moscovia" are assembled in the front left corner of the photo. Michis "Chiswick Chaps Cricket Club" are on the opposing table edge at the turntable and Walter (who played with Docs figures, because his own weren´t painted yet) deployed the "Society of Thule" in the backrow behind a warehouse on the right edge of the photo. In the center of the table (same distance from all three companies) stands a lonely figure, called "The Pigeon", a courier who carries important drawings that everyone wants to steal and carry away.
Society of Thule
Defenders of Moscovia
Chiswick Chaps Cricket Club
The cricket team advance.
All of the Russians advance courageous to be first to catch the pigeon.
Sergeant Krieg and Colonel von Ströheim commence action more relaxed...
...they know that they can count on Doctor Kobalt and the Prussian rifles!
One of the mentioned rifles advances on the right of the warehouse while the others together with Doctor Kobalt move right through it and the officers pass it on the left.
Poor pigeon has no clue what could happen to him and starts walking in a random direction, that is towards the Society of Thule.
Chiswick Chaps Cricket Club moves to the cover provided by a steam locomotive and shoots a Thule rifleman in the doorway of the warehouse.
Laughing faces all over: In spite of his first loss even Walter (left) is delighted by the simplicity and speed provided by the rules.
Brick Lane is quiet before the storm at the shunting yard.
Then it got thick: Chiswick Chaps Cricket Club leaves cover and presses forward.
The Defenders of Moscovia are not too far away and press on as well.
The air is crackling with excitement...
The CCCC members move to new positions.
The Society of Thule do as well...
...as the Russians do too.
Suddenly the Prussians produce a devastating idea: Instead of firing at their opponents they shoot at a tank car which explodes in a great ball of fire that is stunning three CCCC members at once.
Lesson learned: Another tank car is shot at immediately and explodes as well. Two Russians go down to the cobbled pavement.
Both tank cars burn on for a while.
Thick smoke is blocking the line of sight.
KABOOM! Roaring thunder shakes the ground when the third tank car bursts into a fireball. The Thule rifles seem to have found a game they like to play.
When the smake has lifted it becomes obvious that a good portion of the cover provided by goods wagons is gone.
A single burning figure appears from the devastated area. The cricketeer prefers revenge in favour of fire extinguishing...
As if he wasn´t doomed yet he is struck down by the explosion of the tank car right next to him.
Meanwhile von Stöheim and Dimitroff meet face to face to have an unfriendly chat.
Grigorij Dimitroff provokes the Colonal with the fact that the drawings are now in possession of one of his followers and on their way to him - which is perfectly true by the way.
Instantly von Ströheim produces his sbre and crosses blades with the Tsar´s man.
The Prussian rifles manage to charge the English machine gun team next to the shunting yard after a series of failed attempts and many losses in return.
Doctor Kobalt is still hiding in the warehouse reviving the shot Prussians which rise as zombie-like "Tod-Truppen"
The still burning Englishman has manged to make his way to the Moscovians.
The leader of the Society of Thule tries to take the drawings off the Russians hands while he is still dueling their leader.
His followers advance to support his attempts. Even Doctor Kobalt is leaving the protective cover of the warehouse.
Natasha Dimitroff blocks the CCCC leaders way to her comrades who have the drawings.
Finally Sergeant Krieg approaches the area of combat after some pointless wandering.
The still burning Iron Hands meets the leader of the Defenders of Moscovia.
Living and undead Prussian rifles approach the scene.
Being the perfect gentleman the English leader tries to avoid fighting the leading Moscovians daughter.
He seeks to pass her by climbing the roof of a carriage, but she follows without hesitation.
Vom Dach aus will der Engländer auf den Träger der Pläne schießen, aber erst muss er die Russin loswerden.
The English wants to shoot at the bearer of the drawings from above, but first he has to get rid off the female Russian.
Sergeant Krieg ignites the flamethrower and sweeps the trains roofs - to no avail.
Natasha Dimitroff attacks the CCCC leader repetedly with her rapier while he tries to parade with the butt of his hunting rifle.
Regretfully he has to do the inevitable and brutally kicks her from the roof, which in fact is rather deadly to her. Down on the tracks his burning fellow finishes Natashas father at the same time.
Von Ströheim grabs the drawings and leaves two English with empty hands.
IHMN is a fast and thrilling, well balanced rule set that leaves no open questions. It´s quick to learn and easily understandable. We see a bright future for it with the Table Terror Team.
We perfectly want to play it more often and look forward to the next game!
